About Me

My photo
I'm on a journey to grow my hair longer. Genetically my hair has always been naturally long and healthy. I have been stuck between SL (shoulder length) & APL (armpit length) for the longest due to improper care of my hair & scissor-happy beauticians. I'm trying to get back to where I was in my younger years: BSL (bra strap length). I am TALL with a long torso so it may take me longer than others to reach it. My locks are natural (never been relaxed). I will be blogging about different products and techniques I use on my hair. My MAIN GOAL is to get to BSL! If you have any questions, feel free to ask. Enjoy :) God bless :)

SLACKING!!!

I have been slacking off on my hair routine so badly. I do not keep track in my journal anymore (it's been over a month)... my hair is still healthy and I have no breakage or anything like that. One thing I have been doing consistently is wearing protective styles almost 100% of the time. I have been wearing my half wig sometimes also and I love the half wig! It gives me a new look and I always get soooooooooooooo many compliments when I wear it!!!!!!
I am definitely due for a trim because I see my ends are thin (LONG OVERDUE), but I will trim them after I get my hair flat ironed (probably nxt week sometime). I have been trying to figure out y my hair has thin ends being that I don't remember my ends ever being SPLIT & if I almost always wear it in p.styles . After my next trim, I will keep them in CORNROWS most likely since I have always retained every single inch of growth with this style. Or maybe try updos with rollersetting.
My hair has gotten SOOOO much thicker!!!! my hair has always been thick but that's one good thing I can say for this update. My last flat iron I did myself (Christmas), my relatives asked if I had "a piece" in my hair. And was touching it and said how much longer and especially thicker it's getting :) I have only flat iron my hair twice (once on my own and once at the shop) since August. I don't comb it only SOMETIMES when I'm detangling. I have not been consistent with washing.
I had planned on being BSL by next month but I"m not sure if I will make it. I'm praying that next week for my length check, it will be close to BSL because I only have a month left. If anything, I'll give myself to the end of April.
I am really going to give my hair some TLC tonight or tomrw and start to wear my hair in the cornrows consistently and just wear my 1/2 wig when I want to look cute. I will be purchasing more half wigs so that I can have a variety of styles. and I will get on a routine for my hair (consistent with washing and LEAVING HAIR IN CORNROWS.)
Sorry for blabbing but thanx for reading :)

Head Scarves

My cornrows are sooooooooooooo FUZZY right now, and this was expected since I wash my hair twice a week for now. So to cover up my mess, I will be wearing a satin scarf on my head. I really like how they look on me! :) All I did was fold my large square scarf into a rectangle and then tie it down to my head. I went out and bought a couple rectangle-shaped scarves today but I'm not too sure about them because they're not satin or silk. They're not cotton niether; the fabric just feels a little rough. If I wear these ones, I'll apply some type of moisturizer and oil to my hair where the scarf will be applied. Also, I put the rest of my braids in a bun to cover up the rest of that mess on top of my head.

Random (texture, bun & hair plans)

Texture shot...
This isn't a really good shot of my texture but my hair texture has definitely changed :/ My hair use to get spiral curls (3c) when I'd wash it; now it's just wavy (2b, 2c). Not really upset but just trying to figure out why this is happening. Maybe it's Nioxin?

This is a bun I'd been wearing on my hair for a while. I thought it was cute because it's so crinkly and full, and that happened by accident lol. After my wash, I'd detangled, applied Curls Creme and did about 20 twists in my hair. I'd left them in for a few days, untwisted the twists and my hair was crinkly :) Didn't really have any shape when I wore it down so I just bunned it by putting my hair into a ponytail with a thin ouchless hair tie, tucked my ends under, used one jumbo sized bobby pin to pin that down.

I got my hair cornrowed again (the style that I normally receive a massive amount of growth). I will be washing my hair more often using a medicated shampoo my doctor prescribed me for my scalp issues, deep conditioning more, moisturizing my hair daily, moisturizing & sealing my ends daily, massaging my mix (castor oil, Gro Aut oil, peppermint oil, rosemary oil) into my scalp on my temples to thicken the hair. And I plan on wearing cornrows until the end of next month around Christmas time

Curl Creme Brule

I was looking for an all natural leave-in conditioner to leave in my hair after I wash and condition it. I couldn't really find one that I liked (I have probably tried almost all of the leave-in conditioners that contain all natural ingredients). i was browsing through the store & i found this moisturizer called Curl Creme Brule. i am EXTREMELY picky when it comes to my daily moisturizer & I'd finally found something that fit my requirements :) It's a creamy moisturizer with all natural ingredients and I really like it. It keeps my hair moist. Nothing TOO exciting but I am content with this. It smells like coconut :)

Thee BEST detangler: Extra Virgin Olive Oil

YES I'm talking about the olive oil you buy in the grocery store! :) This stuff is probably the best thing that's ever happened to my hair. Detangling my hair after I wash it can be such a NIGHTMARE!!!! I've been trying different products to detangle but EVOO is the BEST!!!
I did my regular wash routing but this time , instead of prepooing in coconut oil, I used evoo.. after I shampood, I was about to start using a conditioner to detangle but my fingers were already just running through my hair so easily!! I didn't even have to use any other product to detangle !!!

Nioxin results already? :)

I've been taking Nioxin for about 30 days now & I am surprised that I'm already seeing positive results :) Since taking Nioxin, my eyebrows have grown in WAAAAYYY faster than usual!!!!My nails are much stronger and have grown MUCH faster than before. I can't SURELY tell if it did anything to my hair or not but I do see that my new growth is AT LEAST a bit more than 1/2" from 1 month ago.

I think my normal growth rate is 1/2" a month.. not quite sure but like I said, a bit more than 1/2" is the LEAST my hair has grown & I'm sure my hair grew more than that but its hard to tell with this measuring tape I have been using. I will continue taking these vitamins :)

**3/10/12 UPDATE: Stopped using Nioxin because it gave me the WORST breakouts :( Took a while for those pimples to go away. I think it really was making my hair grow very quickly but I couldn't stand the breakouts (yes I was already drinking LOTS of water)

1st Flat Iron Since June!!!

Ahhhh how I've missed this straight, SOFT hair... I love it!
I got my hair done professionally at the salon. I am just disappointed at the fact that my hair did not grow out as much as I'd expected. I've been wearing protective styles and haven't been using any heat on my hair since the beginning of June.
Last year when I wore protective style for only 2 months, my hair had gotten SOOO LONG, and this time I've been doing pretty much the same thing plus more for a longer duration of time; I believe Hairdrenalin stunted my growth.
My ends are a LITTLE see through (nothing drastic) and that's strange to me, since I've been protecting my ends for the last 4 months. I've been researching and came to the conclusion that I need to make sure I MOISTURIZE my ends OFTEN!!!! There were times that I would just keep a protective style in for a whole week without manipulating my hair AT ALL; that was a mistake because I should have been taking my hair out to moisturize my ends.
BUT I am happy that my hair is still healthy and it is still growing :)

I left my hair down (wrapping it at night) for about 4 days after I'd got it flat ironed, then I started loose bunning.. Making sure my ends are tucked under my bun. I moisturize my ends every other day with Roots of Nature Strengthening Oil Moisturizer (hair lotion). I really likes this stuff because there's no harsh ingredients, it keeps my ends moist and it smells fresh :)
